Criss-crossing the VUB and ULB’s numerous auditoriums and on the lovely green of their campuses, Golazo Sports is organising a true cyclo-cross event on Sunday, 5 January 2020. The Brussels Universities Cyclocross will be one of the DVV Trophy's races and will capitalise on the abundant number of slopes and grass strips on the VUB and ULB campuses.
The Brussels Universities Cyclocross is part of the Brussels University Alliance project that encourages inter-university partnerships in a variety of different areas. It’s also for this reason that we’d like to invite our VUB community to flock to the campus and liven up this singular event.
After all, the VUB has a long history of sports and elite sports and is a pioneer among universities in that it's the very first to draw up an elite sports policy for students. Did you for example know that the VUB has been offering the Elite Sport and Study program for over 30 years? Through this program, elite athletes get the chance to combine their sport with university studies. And the VUB's efforts in this Elite Sport and Study department have paid off: Olympians Ann Simons and Dirk Van Tichelt (judo), Erica Coppey, Florent Van Aubel and Jérôme Truyens (hockey), Jurgen Roelandts (cycling), Sebastiaan Godefroid and Yannick Lefèbvre (sailing) successfully graduated at the VUB.
The VUB's efforts have paid off too as a result of heavy investments in the elite sporting facilities and support that we are currently able to make use of. And this extends far beyond just the Physical Activity and Physiotherapy Faculty: it ranges from sports economists to psychologists, who help improve mental resilience, and to engineers as well. All across the VUB you'll find collaboration on elite sports, elite sports policy, peak performance and first-rate equipment: all to guarantee the ultimate in performance. For example, that’s why the Olympic TeamNL partners with VUB sports psychologist, Paul Wylleman.
