From elite sport to the job market

Given the limited duration of a sporting career at the highest level, many elite athletes choose to develop a different, new professional career after their sporting career. Perseverance and dealing with adversity are typically pointed out as competencies former elite athletes possess and which may pave the way for also being an outstanding employee.  But are elite athletes and their employability really a winning team? 

In this article, Sofie Smismans summarizes challenges and facilitators for athletes in making the transition from elite sport to a new career. In addition, she shines her light on the research findings of the B-WISER project regarding athletes' employability.
